Signs and Symptoms

The signs and symptoms of orthopedic conditions vary and can include numbness, muscle or joint pain, stiffness and/or swelling, and restricted range of motion in any part of the body, with some more common areas to develop problems than others.

Knees

When our knees are not well, they can make even the most basic daily activities difficult, such as walking upstairs or doing daily chores. Some common knee problems include osteoarthritis, which occurs when the cartilage breaks down, causing joint deterioration and swelling. You may be feeling joint pain and stiffness. Tendonitis also presents with inflammation, pain and stiffness, due to overuse or repetitive motions. Injuries can also be the culprit, such as a torn meniscus or torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Both of these conditions can be painful and may require surgery to repair.

Hips

Our hip joints bear a lot of our weight. Although our hips are protected by ligaments, muscles and bones, diseases such as arthritis or osteoporosis, aging, even injury can cause hip pain and deterioration. If you are experiencing chronic pain in one or both of your hips, or if you have a reduced range of motion or function, it could be time to have a full evaluation of your hips’ health.

Shoulders and Feet

Other common areas of orthopedic concern are the shoulders and feet. Shoulder injuries, such as a torn rotator cuff, can cause pain and weakness. You may need physical therapy or even surgery to repair the problem. Arthritis can cause inflammation in the shoulder joint, making it difficult to move the shoulder without pain. Pain in your feet can be caused for a variety of reasons and can also result from problems in your knees and hips. Your orthopedic provider can evaluate your foot problems and also determine other orthopedic issues that could be contributing to your foot pain.

If you are experiencing any of these or similar symptoms, it may be time to make an appointment with our onsite orthopedic physician assistant, Rebecca Brisco. Request an appointment.

What Is The Patient Portal?

The patient portal is your online gateway to accessing medical information and communicating electronically. This is also a way to securely send and receive messages with providers and staff. View summaries of your visits, lab and imaging results, medications and more, and request and view upcoming appointments, all while keeping your information safe. You will need a code to access the online patient portal for the first time, which you can request at your first appointment.
